Labor "Stay"cation Ideas!
Labor Day weekend is the last unofficial day of the summer, the kids are back to school and the temperatures have already started to cool so you want to do something fun this Labor Day to bid farewell to the summer.
While it may seem like everyone has headed to the Cape, the mountains or Maine, why not stay home and celebrate the three-day weekend at home?
Here are a few ideas for stay-at-home ways to enjoy Labor Day Weekend.
Host a Potluck Barbecue
Instead of hosting a party and doing all the work yourself, why not organize a potluck BBQ with friends, neighbors or family? Ask friends to bring their favorite dish and fire up the grill, put on some music and enjoy the last days of summer at home. Our Team Director, Becky, loves to grab some fresh corn from a local stand. She dresses each ear of corn with different ingredients such as mayo, cayenne pepper and a twig of rosemary or mayo, garlic, and thyme and then she wraps them in foil. You can throw them directly on the grill and the best part is that you don’t really know what you are going to get until you open them up!
Home Improvement Project
Weekdays will soon be filled with commuting back and forth from work and school, juggling school activities with homework deadlines. So, before all the back-to-school chaos begins, why not take advantage of the long weekend to tackle one of those home improvement projects you have been putting off? Maybe it is to organize your closet(s), paint a piece of furniture or give your front door a new look. Our very own, Nicole Donohoe, just did a fabulous laundry room renovation that got her giddy about ironing again! Just be sure to celebrate when you are finished, it is a three-day weekend after all!
Labor Staycation
Planning a Labor Staycation can be fun, especially with so many attractions nearby.
Rent a canoe at the South Bridge Boat House in Concord and explore the Concord River. After paddling, head into town for some shopping or a bite to eat!
Take a hike, pack a picnic, eat an ice cream and visit the animals at the Great Farm State Park with miles of trails and a working dairy farm. This family-friendly park is located in Carlisle.
Middlesex Fells Reservation is only minutes away in Stoneham. This 2,200-acre natural reserve has trails that are perfect for hiking, walking (dogs are welcome) and biking. Explore the refreshing waterfalls or discover Wright’s Tower with views of Boston and beyond!
The Minuteman Bikeway is a perfect way to spend an afternoon or try the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail that runs through Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford and into Acton!

Movie Marathon
A three-day weekend is perfect for a Movie Marathon. The AMC Burlington Cinema 10 is a wonderful place to catch a flick or two! Why not check out Lexington Venue, an old-fashioned movie theater that features two movies each day? Or you can put on some comfy clothes, pop some corn and enjoy movies at home.
