3 Reasons You Need to Like Your Buyer Agent

Home buying is a process, rarely with a clear roadmap for how to proceed, as every real estate transaction is unique. Some are downright complicated. Below are the top 3 reasons to be sure you have partnered with an agent you can honestly say you like.

  1. Trust & respect are essential.

Your agent is hired to represent you, the buyer, and should always be looking out for your best interests. In order to feel confident this is the case, you need to establish trust and respect. Pretend you’ve found the home of your dreams and are ready to make an offer. Your agent needs to be your biggest advocate throughout this stage, respecting your needs and advising you, while also understanding the seller’s motivations, current market conditions and special considerations.

  2. You’ll spend a lot of time together.

It’s possible that you’ll find your dream house right away. But it’s more likely that you’ll tour many homes (dozens, perhaps) over several months. Do you want to share these critical visits with someone whose company you DON’T enjoy? We didn’t think so. Even after finding your home, you’ll continue to work with your agent from the negotiations all the way through to closing. Determine what qualities are most important to you in your home-buying partner and look for an agent who makes you feel comfortable.

  3. Open, Honest Communication is a Critical Part of the Process.

No two clients of any agent are looking for the same house. Your must haves and wishlist will be unique from any other buyer’s. Your agent needs to know what gets you excited…along with what you DON’T want. It’s imperative that your voice is being heard. Honesty and two-way conversations are must-haves throughout the entire process. These open lines of communication will ensure you get the level of personalized service that you deserve.
