Mike Gustin Memorial Golf Tournament

Coming up on Monday, August 1, 2022, the 6th Annual Mike Gustin Memorial Golf Classic will be held at the Marshfield Country Club. This event is near and dear to our hearts, as it’s in memory of our South Shore agent Katie Gerstel’s dad.

Katie was recently interviewed about the tournament by a local news source. Check it out below and learn how you can donate or sponsor a hole sign on the course! Visit the dedicated Facebook page for more information.

Can you tell me why your family hosts the Gustin Golf Tournament each year to benefit the HeartBrothers Foundation?

We host the golf event every year in memory of my father, Mike Gustin, who sadly passed away from heart failure in 2015 at 64 years old. As a family, we were in and out of Tufts Medical for months and months and always wondered how families do this when they live out of state, need financial assistance, have to work, have children, etc.? When my family met Pat in an elevator coming from Pratt 8, we learned about the HeartBrothers Foundation and knew one day we would want to give back. Unfortunately, my dad never met Pat and Bob (founders of HeartBrothers) but I know for a fact that if he were alive today, he would be the HeartBrothers’ biggest supporter. My dad was the most generous man and gave to so many. He also started a large Celebrity Golf Tournament supporting Cerebral Palsy and ran it for many years, so this is something he would do. The tournament is a great day to honor my father's memory, bring his family and friends together each year, all while giving back to heart transplant patients and families going through difficult times.

Why do you feel it is important to support the HBF?

To honor my father’s memory and keep his spirit of generosity alive, we want to help other families who experiencing hardship as they support a loved one through heart failure.

What would you like people to know about your father?

He was the best husband and father anyone could ever ask for and he would do anything for anyone to make them happy and make their life easier.

What would you like people to know about the HeartBrothers?

All of the HeartBrothers we have met over the years have honestly been the nicest most appreciative people we have ever met. They got a second chance in life and it shows. Every HeartBrother sincerely wants to help these families. They want to share their story and support them. Families need support more than ever during these tough times. All these families should know about the HBF, whether they need financial support or emotional support. I wish my dad could have spoken to Pat or Bob just one day…I bet he would have had a little more hope some days. Sometimes that's all you need to push through the bad days.

Does your family still live in Marshfield?

Three of us live in Marshfield and one in Plymouth.
