Summer Fun in Greater Boston
The temperatures are rising, the kids are out of school, mask mandates are lifted, and everything is opening back up. What are the not-to-be-missed events & attractions this summer? We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites!
Get Outside!
Lots of our team members enjoy hiking on their down time. Some recent destinations include Skug River Reservation in Andover, MA and Wildcat Falls Conservation Area in Merrimack, NH.
A longtime local favorite is the Battle Road Trail, a 5-mile trail connecting historic sites from Meriam’s Corner in Concord to the eastern boundary of the Minute Man National Historic Park in Lexington. With several parking areas and historic treasures along the way, this attraction fun solo, with a friend or with the whole family.
If the Battle Road Trail sparked a desire for checking out more historic sites, a trip into Boston to walk all or some of The Freedom Trail is a must-do! You can choose to explore this on a tour led by a guide in period garb or grab a map and navigate it on your own.
Lazy Beach Days
As the heat picks up, so does our desire to hit up some area beaches for a bit of a reprieve (but don’t be fooled - that water is still mighty chilly this time of year!).
While some of our favorite beaches are a bit of a drive, either north up to York Beach in Maine or south to the Cape Cod beaches, there are some great ones in closer proximity to the city.
North of Boston, Nahant Beach is an easy one to visit for a pleasant sandy experience. An easy drive from most spots around Boston, the parking lot can accommodate a good number of cars and the current daily rate is $10.
If you prefer to stay closer to the city, South Boston boasts a handful of beaches. Castle Island combines history and recreation, connected to South Boston beaches such as Carson Beach and also featuring Fort Independence.
Events & Attractions
There are always a host of activities to do during the summer months and events are coming back to life after a long period of time without them.
Check out any one of the great outdoor venues in and around Boston, from Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium to the Leader Bank Pavilion and the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade.
For an amusement park adventure, head south of Boston to Edaville Family Theme Park with your littlest kids or north to Canobie Lake Park for fun at any age.
While they are usually open year-round, the energy and activities at Stone Zoo and Franklin Park Zoo pick up momentum in our warmer months. Our dinosaur-loving friends will want to check out the T. Rex Adventure at Stone Zoo (through September 6, 2021)!
Shopping Excursions
And what would summer be without some flea market finds or a trip to some boutique shops on a quintessential main street?
A team favorite of summer is the Brimfield Antique Flea Market. Some very cool treasures came home with our agents after the May dates! You have two more chances to explore for yourself this year: July 12-17 and September 6-11.
Boston’s SoWa Market has been around for a few years now and continues to evolve. With a few different markets running on various schedules, be sure to check the website and find the time that works best for you: https://www.sowaboston.com/.
The shore towns of Massachusetts each have their own personality, and their own shopping experiences. Check out boutiques north of the city in Newburyport and Salem or head south to the shops in Plymouth and Hingham.
The list of local recommendations could go on and on, but hopefully you’ve found something new to check out this summer!
