Best of Fall in Massachusetts

While every season brings different activities, weather, etc., there’s really nothing comparable to fall in New England. From seasonal festivities, to rich colors gracing our front porches, we’ve gathered some of our favorite things to see and do this season.

Get Outside

Fall is an absolutely gorgeous time to get outside for any variety of seasonal activities. Some of our favorites include:

  1. Going for a hike to take in the vibrant foliage.

  2. Venturing out on a day trip to a visit to a local orchard for apple picking and cider donuts.

  3. Taking a hayride at a local farm.

Check out Local Events & Activities

There are a number of annual activities that occur in the fall. A few to add to your calendar include:

  1. Topsfield Fair - starting THIS WEEKEND, open October 1-10, 2021! This annual fair features rides, animals, performances, traditional fair food & more. It offers fun for visitors of all ages!

  2. Head of the Charles Regatta - since its inception in 1965, the Head of the Charles Regatta has attracted hundreds of thousands of rowers & spectators to the banks of the Charles River. This year’s event is scheduled for October 22-24.

  3. After the 2020 event was canceled, the 2021 Boston Marathon postponed its 125th running from Patriots’ Day (the 3rd Monday in April) to October 1, 2021.

Visit Local Attractions

Some of our local attractions are even more spectacular in the fall. Here are a few to keep on your list:

  1. Round up the kids and head out to Davis Farmland in Sterling (only open Thursday-Sunday in the fall). With everything from PYO apples & pumpkins to Adventureland where they can dig for dino bones or build a cabin, hours of family fun can be had here.

  2. With fall comes Halloween…and what better place to get into the spirit than in Salem, home of the famous witch trials? Check out their Haunted Happenings website with its robust events calendar and dive into this spooky season!

  3. The craft beer movement has certainly made its way to Massachusetts…and many of our local breweries host seasonal festivities. Take in an Oktoberfest celebration with seasonal brews, Bavarian treats and activities at many of them! Some of our favorites are Mighty Squirrel in Waltham, Night Shift in Everett, Lamplighter in Cambridge, and Notch in Salem.
